The Ateneo di Scienze Lettere e Arti of Bergamo announces the 10th biennial edition of the Luigi and Sandro Angelini Study Award, established by the will of Sandro Angelini and instituted by his sons Luì, Piervaleriano, and Leonardo. The Award is intended to honour the memory of engineer and architect Luigi Angelini (1884–1969), President of the Ateneo di Scienze Lettere e Arti of Bergamo from 1953 to 1966, and of architect Sandro Angelini (1915–2001), honorary member of the same institution.

The Award, amounting to €2,000, will be granted to an unpublished historical-critical research project, distinguished by originality and scholarly rigour, within one of the following thematic areas, referring to Italian and/or international contexts:

- history of architecture

- history of cities and territories

- urban planning

- landscape studies

- notable figures in architectural research, restoration, and design

- analysis of planning and design experiences or completed projects, either Italian or international

The Award is open to Italian and foreign citizens, without age restrictions. Previous recipients of the Award are not eligible. Applicants’ employment status must be compatible with the research project.

Applications must include:

- a research proposal (maximum five pages, each of approximately 2,000 characters)

- a curriculum vitae outlining academic and/or professional background

- full contact details (postal address, phone number, email)

and must be sent to the following address: info@ateneobergamo.it by no later than 1 September 2025.

The Selection Committee, appointed by the Board of the Ateneo, will evaluate the applications and make an irrevocable decision by 15 October 2025, after which the recipient will be promptly notified.

In evaluating submissions, the Committee will consider the quality and relevance of the research proposal, in particular:

- adherence to the thematic areas specified in the call

- quality and richness of historical, literary, archival, and documentary sources to be investigated

- academic and/or professional background of the applicant

Upon awarding the Study Award, the recipient will be assigned a research supervisor (tutor).

The Award will be disbursed in two installments: the first installment of €1,000 will be granted within six months of the start of the research period, upon written confirmation from the tutor of significant progress; failure to provide such confirmation may result in revocation of the Award at the sole discretion of the Committee.

The second installment of €1,000 will be awarded upon submission of the final research output, subject to the tutor’s written confirmation of its scientific quality and achievement of the objectives set out in the approved project.

The final research paper (ranging between 25 and 50 pages, each of approximately 2,000 characters) must be submitted by 31 December 2026.

The Ateneo reserves the right to publish the final research output in one of its academic series, in print or digital format.
