Exploring the Potential of Smaller Collections. Approaches to Austrian and South German Baroque Drawings and Prints.
The Alte Galerie in Graz (Austria) is inviting applications from early and mid-career experts in the field of drawing and printmaking for a five-day workshop (May 5-10, 2025) to be held at the Alte Galerie in Schloss Eggenberg and in the collection's depot. This workshop is made possible with support from Getty through its Paper Project initiative. During the workshop, the participants will gain important insights into the strategies for the scientific processing of a hitherto little-researched graphic collection. The focus will be on drawings by Austrian and southern German artists of the Baroque period. Through structured guided discussion, participants will not only gain an insight into the specific stylistic characteristics of selected Austrian and southern German Baroque artists, but will also understand the importance of multiple methodological approaches.
Your application
The program is aimed at early and mid-career curators of graphic arts collections (curators at a museum or comparable, curatorial or research assistants/associates, volunteers, postdocs), but also at advanced PhD students and independent researchers with practical experience in a museum or similar exhibition institution (including digital platforms). Knowledge of Austrian and Southern German drawings is an advantage, but not a prerequisite for participation. The application includes:

The workshop will be led by the curators of the Alte Galerie, Dr. Karin Leitner-Ruhe and Dr. Stefan Albl, as well as a team of five senior experts in Austrian and South German drawings and prints and paper conservation.
