Paid by artist: To be defined depending on the artist's project. They do not take to charge subsistence costs & travel costs for more than one person (residency) and will analyze case-by-case for tours.

Description The Comic Art Europe project involves four European organisations representing the comic book ecosystem: The Lakes International Comic Art Festival (UK), Escola Joso (ES), The Belgian Comic Strip Centre (BE) and Lyon BD (FR). Its goal is to strengthen the comic book sector in the EU. It prefigures a European comics community capable of positioning creators and organisations at a European level. Its main actions: 1) Opening a call for projects from comics creators who wish to access financial and developmental support (residencies, funding, tours, etc.) 2) Organising the first two summer camps for young European comics creators 3) Test and demonstrate the importance of comics as a tool for literacy Now into its second year, the Comic Art Europe project is preparing to launch a second call for comics projects, the only constraint being the use of the comics medium and the respect of the theme: Living together. Diversity enhances society. Learning about other cultures, being exposed to different values and influences is an enriching experience that broadens the mind and promotes tolerance and the appreciation of difference. This year, Comic Art Europe is asking comics artists to reflect in their own way on "living together" in the modern world. Through true stories or fictional creations, comic book artists are invited to present projects that illustrate their interpretation of "living together" today. Five projects will be selected by a jury comprising comic strip experts and representatives of each of the five cultural organisations participating in the Comic Art Europe project. Each selected artist will be awarded a €5000 grant and a two-week residency in one of the 4 partner cities of the project (Lyon in France, Brussels in Belgium, Barcelona in Spain and Kendal in England). The winning artists will also have the opportunity to present their work at festivals and events proposed by the project partners and in 2023. Applications will be open from 15 October 2021 until 15 December 2021.
Outcome The completed works will be presented during the project’s partner festivals. Each applicant will have to make a proposal for an output format around their project which will be presented during the partner festivals (e.g. exhibition, installation, graphic novel, etc).

Technical Information Depends on each partners' place.
Location Each residency place is different and has its very own specificities. In Lyon you will be in the middle of the city ; in Barcelona your residency will take place in a higher education comics school ; in Belgium you will be in one of the biggest comics museum of Europe, etc.
