IMT is a contemporary art gallery in London. We have been supporting emerging artists and contemporary experimental art practices since 2005. IMT is committed to producing contemporary art projects to better understand the world in which we live and achieve agency in that world. We are a critical-fictional hybrid, both in form and function - we present critical artworks and experimental curatorial practices, and we are non-profit, yet embrace the commercial gallery model by representing artists and participating in art fairs. IMT is inviting applications from artists working in multimedia art practices to join our new Digital Residencies programme. The aim of Digital Residencies is to provide a focused environment for the development of artistic and professional practice, as well as providing a sustainable form of making artistic research and practice public. The successful applicant will join IMT, along with three other artists invited by IMT for this project. Digital Residency format Digital Residencies is an experimental project which works with audience subscriptions, with proceeds shared between residency artists and IMT (through our non-profit status). The residency will allow an open studio approach, giving artists the opportunity to talk about their practice “behind the scenes” to subscribers as well as access to the inner workings of a contemporary art gallery in London. The artists will be supported over the course of the project with skillshares. This includes mentoring in the development of their work by curators Dr Kirsten Cooke and Dr Mark Jackson, and in professional practice, with an emphasis on social media marketing with Director Lindsay Friend.

What kind of content will we be producing? We don’t yet know, but we have many ideas! Each artist will have their own take on this, which will mean each residency will be unique! IMT have always taken a collaborative approach with the artists we have worked with, and we will be working with residency artists in creating material that enhances their practice and develops their professional and social media presence. If you would like an Easy Read version of this document, or a version in an alternative format, please contact lindsay@imagemusictext.com Who can apply? Who are we? IMT is a contemporary art gallery in London. We have been supporting emerging artists and contemporary experimental art practices since 2005. IMT is committed to producing contemporary art projects to better understand the world in which we live and achieve agency in that world. We are a critical-fictional hybrid, both in form and function - we present critical artworks and experimental curatorial practices, and we are non-profit, yet embrace the commercial gallery model by representing artists and participating in art fairs. All income generated through our activities goes towards supporting artists and the development of our programme. Our programme includes online and offline exhibitions, as well as commissioning new art. Dr Kirsten Cooke lectures in Alternative Histories in Art and Curating, Curatorial Practice and Studio Art Practice at University of Reading, Birkbeck (UL) and Chelsea Collage of Arts (UAL). Kirsten experiments with architectural forms of staging, and situates curating as a collaborative practice for a speculative audience. Dr Mark Jackson is a senior lecturer in Fine Art Critical Theory and Curatorial Practices at Northumbria University. Mark’s work is primarily focused on collaborative art making, investigational curating and intermedia practice. Lindsay Friend is the director of IMT Gallery. She has a particular interest in the role of social media in arts professional practice and has given talks and mentoring on professional practice for 17 years to universities, studios and art organisations around the UK. We are currently building a new website, so please head over to our Instagram and YouTube to find out more about what we do.
